The magpie-meister, the cine-cannibal, the hit-and-run expert Priyadarshan now turns his attention to Manichithrathazhu (1993), which despite some of the plot holes, was a richly atmospheric film by Fazil. It's a much beloved film that we often see at home. I shudder to imagine what Priyadarshan must have done to it. The film, which won Shobana a well-deserved National Award, has already been remade in Tamil as the Rajnikanth vehicle "Chandramukhi". A pity because the original was not centered around the Mohanlal equivalent, as a Rajnikanth film must inevitably be.

Still, the unspeakable horror that is Bhuul-bhulaiya beckons movie-goers. Extremely irritating lead song has done nothing to assuage matters.
